Govt programme to promote trade ties in Thailand, CLMV

THE INTERNATIONAL Trade Promotion Department will this month kick off a project to coach business leaders and government officials from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand (CLMVT) on forming connections and networks.

Malee Choklumlerd, director-general of the department, said the CLMVT Executive Programme aimed to train entrepreneurs in business networking so as to increase connectivity among government officials and private enterprises.
Similar projects are planned in the other four countries in subsequent years, but the first will be initiated in Thailand, and will run from this month to September.
The department will hold six meetings where private-enterprise and government officials can share experiences, and implement networking among one another. Two of the six meetings will be held in Thailand (the first and the last), with the others rotated among the CLMV countries.
There will be about 60 participants, mainly high-level government officials and private-sector executives. About 20 will be from Thailand and 40 from CLMV countries.
Previously, the department organised the Thailand-Cambodia Networking project from May 26-29 to train Thai and Cambodian entrepreneurs and organise networking activities between the government and private sectors.
The next business-connectivity activity will be launched in Laos.
Tomorrow, the government will launch the first “CLMVT Forum” in Bangkok, bringing together representatives of the governments and private sectors of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand to discuss promoting economic, trade, tourism, and investment growth in each country by tightening cooperation and eliminating barriers. The forum will run until Saturday.
The event will bring together leading policymakers, entrepreneurs, business leaders, academics and youth leaders from the five nations to participate in roundtable discussions. About 1,000 participants are expected.
