Nothing cosier that Warm Wood

Nothing cosier that Warm Wood

An oasis of calm off Thong Lor, this new cafe specialises in all-day brunches

DINING AT the newly opened Warm Wood Cafe is every bit as relaxing at the name suggests, with the roar of Thong Lor Soi 10 yielding to sanctuary surroundings and delicious comfort food.
The owners have set up the place with the charmingly simple bistros of southern France in mind. It’s all subdued earth tones and natural wood, an ideal spot to hang out with friends over a hearty meal or just take a break from life’s bustle and enjoy the peace. The food is as soothing as the decor, uncomplicated yet fulfilling.
Open bright and early most days at 6am, the Warm Wood continues serving breakfast and brunch all day, befitting the leisurely ambience.
The classic brunch dishes arrive with some remarkable twists, as in the Barbecued Pulled Pork Egg Benedict (Bt260). The egg is poached and the sauce is creamy Hollandaise, but the usual English muffin is instead freshly made sourdough and the other topping is succulent pork cooked sous vide in barbecue sauce.
If you fancy a waffle, you get Duck and Waffle (Bt350). The batter is grilled to airy, buttery perfection and accompanied by a crisp-fried duck leg and savoury gravy.
For the ravenous, the Rib-eye Steak (Bt850) ought to fill you up. It’s a 200-gram chunk of imported beef seared according to your liking (tender and juicy, preferably) and topped with the tasty chimichurri sauce that’s redolent with herbs.
Pasta joins the other venerable comfort foods on the menu.
Spaghetti with Ebiko (Bt300) is a hearty and filling feel-good meal thanks to the generous portion of pasta, addictive ebiko fish roe and a seared tiger prawn waving from the top. If the combination of creamy sauce and slightly fishy roe sounds strange, give it a try, because it’s very pleasing and palatable.
The dessert list is extensive. Recommended is the sinfully decadent Pavlova (Bt260), a fragrant meringue with a lovely texture to it holding fresh vanilla cream and showered with a sweet-and-sour fruit mixture and rich, homemade raspberry coulis.
You also must try the Churros (Bt180), made with fried choux dough that’s sprinkled with sugar, cinnamon and diced almonds and served with tangy and refreshing yuzu dip and dark-chocolate dip.
Nutty and crunchy, this is a great choice to go with an afternoon cup of tea.
