Democracy embraces a multitude of views
Satish Sehgal (Letters, June 27) writes that he supports democracy “as long as the views are objective and not one-sided”. Good lord, is this guy for real?
Democracy is always about having one-sided views! Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are giving Americans one-sided arguments on why we should vote for either one of them as president. We, the people, can then decide which arguments we agree with.
So democracy doesn’t mean no one can be one-sided – it means everyone can be one-sided! And that’s what creates a balance of opinions.
As for being objective, politics can never be that because it’s always open to interpretations that are based on our own biases. Democracy respects that fact and juntas don’t.
