AIA wellness programme offers discounted insurance premiums

AIA THAILAND has launched AIA Vitality, offering discounted insurance premiums and benefits for policyholders who can show health improvements annually.

“We believe that AIA Vitality can make a very significant impact on Thailand’s public health, while simultaneously revolutionising the life-insurance industry,” Saloon Tham, chief executive of AIA Thailand, said yesterday.
AIA Vitality is the first wellness programme in the Thai insurance industry, but overseas, they are well known.
The new programme not only helps AIA to lower clams, it helps the holders of selected AIA life and health policies to enjoy lower premiums and health bonuses.
“We know that this will be a true game changer,” he said.
“With a concept that is both innovative and engaging, AIA Vitality will push the entire healthcare market towards being more proactive by making being healthy fun for its members. 
“I am confident members will receive AIA Vitality very well and that it will find great success in Thailand. 
“Meanwhile, this will raise the bar for the insurance business and help strengthen our leadership position as an insurance company that commits to enhance the wellness of people,” he said.
Sang Hui Lee, chief marketing officer, said 60 per cent of the Thai population had access to the Internet, 47 per cent used smartphones to access digital content and 38 per cent used their phones exclusively for voice calls. 
“New health trends are also increasing in Thailand, including healthy eating and exercise that includes marathon events, cycling, yoga and more,” he said, adding that AIA Vitality fits the changing lifestyles of Thais. 
It uses the principles of behavioural economics to promote healthy habits, rewarding members with benefits and discounts, to improve their health and well-being. It is designed to make healthy living fun, rewarding, and sustainable, the company claims.
AIA Vitality is a joint effort with Discovery, an insurer based in South Africa. It guides members on a wellness journey through three steps – know your health, improve your health and enjoy the rewards.
The discount is 5-20 per cent of premiums for the first year and up to 25 per cent in renewal years, depending on the member’s AIA Vitality status. 
In Africa, AIA Group has witnessed a slowdown in claims and an increase of renewal premiums every year.
This proved that AIA Vitality is the programme that not only helps people stay healthy but also helps the insurer cut operating costs, the company says.
