Students shouldn’t be shackled over opinions

Students shouldn’t be shackled over opinions

The image on the front pages of Thai newspapers of students in shackles after being arrested for criticising the draft constitution seemed to show very low regard on the part of the authorities for our young ones. It certainly makes one wonder in what age

Those in power should ask themselves whether we creating a system to satisfy ourselves only or for the betterment and livelihood of future generations?
Good or bad, these students represent our future. They don’t deserve to be treated as criminals simply because they have opinions that are different from ours.
It might be true that some of those arrested have a sinister political agenda and their own selfish ends. But that doesn’t mean we should treat them in the same manner.
Those suspected of having a dirty political agenda – given evidence to prove it – should be sorted out and brought to trial separately.
Finally, we should treat and teach our children well.
