Wanchana Defends Title to Make Thai LPGA History

Wanchana Poruangrong defended her title by carding a final round 70 to beat Kanphanitnan Muangkhumsakul by one shot during the final round of the BT800,000 Singha-SAT Thailand LPGA Championship presented by Toyota at the par 72 6,277 yard Singha Park Kho

The 22-year-old from Surin hit three birdies against a lone bogey for an ending 70 and a three-day total of nine-under-par 207 to become the first player to defend a title in the eight-year history of the Thailand Ladies Professional Golf Association.

“I’m very excited to win two years in a row. It was unbelievable in the final hole as Mind (Kanphanitnan) was leading me two strokes. She hit the bunker and hit the next shot to the pool. I had a chance to shoot a birdie and I made it,” said Wanchana who won the winner’s prize money of BT114,000. She will next enter a qualifying event in KLPGA Tour, South Korea next week.

Kanphanitnan whose ending double bogey cost her the title finished with a 71 and a total 208. She had to settle with the runner-up’s prize money of BT58,900.

Piyathida Plyumsri, with a 68, and Saranporn Langkulgasettrin, after a 71, came at joint third with a total four-under-par 212.
