Flyweight Chatchai eases his way into the last-16 in Rio

Experienced flyweight Chatchai Butdee launched his campaign in the 2016 Olympic Games in highly impressive fashion by securing a unanimous victory over Great Britain’s Qais Ashfaq on Wednesday.

Making his second successive Olympic appearance after the London Games, the 31-year-old Chatchai ensured he at least reached the last-16 round just as he did four years ago by completely outboxing the Briton, eight years his junior.

Having cleared his first hurdle, Chatchai will next face Vladimir Nikitin of Russia, who also clinched comfortable victory in the preliminary round against Vanuatu’s Boe Warawara. The two-time SEA Games champion is one of four Thai boxers remaining at the Games following lightweight Amnat Ruenroeng’s exit at the last-16 stage the previous day.
