Public cartoon display backs Panglong

YANGON - A pro-peace cartoon show in support of the so-called 21st-century Panglong conference was publicly launched on August 12 at Mahabandoola Park in Yangon.

The public show by the Myanmar Cartoonist Organisation (MCO) will be displayed for three days.

“It’s mainly to show support for the 21st Century Panglong conference. As the conference is being planned under the leadership of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the cartoonists expressed their support as much as they can. It was not staged because anyone encouraged us. We just cooperated to make it happen,” said cartoonist Maung Sein Win from the MCO.

Around 160 cartoonists from across the country joined pens for the show, which displayed about 230 cartoons.

The organisers said they planned to tour four other Yangon districts and possibly further afield if they were invited.

“Cartoonists want peace too. We want the peace conference to succeed,” said cartoonist Maung Maung.

The Yangon show attracted many visitors on the first day, with drawings costing 50,000 kyats.
