Fit Again Wishaya Downs China's He

Young gun Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul kept the local hope alive in the US$10,000 CalComp & XYZ Printing ITF Thailand Pro Circuit after he upset Chinese seventh seeded He Yecong 6-4 3-6 6-1 in the second round at the True Arena Hua Hin yesterday.

The 21-year-old big gun used his powerful serves and aggressive baseline game to beat the world No 548 in two hours and eight minutes. The former national Davis Cup player successfully put his losing streaks to the Chinese who beat him twice in Taiwan in 2014 and in Hong Kong this year.
“I’m playing at the same level like I did before the shoulder injury. I can serve well the way I want to which helps me focus on my game,” said Wishaya who had been affected by the injury between 2014 until early this year.
“In the second set he played well and came back to force the third set. But I started quite well by breaking him early with some good returns. The momentum switched back to me and I seized that advantage to win the match,” added Wishya who is in his second quarter-final this year after reaching this same stage in Anning, China in February. He will face another Chinese Sun Fajing who upset second seed Lloyd Harris of South Africa 6-2 6-2.
“I played him three times and won all those matches. He is very solid at the baseline. But I’m quite confident with my game now,” said Wishaya, the only Thai left in the singles actions.
In the other second round matches, Pruchya Isarow went down to Indian eighth seed N. Sriram Balaji 6-2 6-2 while Phassawit Burapharitta lost to Japanese Issei Okamura 6-3 6-4.
Top seed Chen Ti of Taiwan toppled Daniel Nolan of Australia 6-1 6-1, third seed Antione Escoffier of France ended the run of Japanese qualifier Ken Onishi 6-4 6-4 and South Korean Chung Yunseong upset sixth seed Lee Kuan-Yi of Taiwan 6-3 7-5.
In the doubles quarter-finals, top duo Sonchat and Sanchai Raiwatana beat Japanese Issei Okamura and Ryota Tanuma 7-5 6-3 and Wishaya and Kittipong Wachiramanowong beat He Yecong and Sun Fajing of China 6-3 2-6 10-6.
