Wishaya, and pair of Jirat-Patcharapol Advance in Hua Hin.

Red Hot Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul underlined his supremacy over Chinese Quyang Bowen by knocking out the sixth seed 6-3 6-2 in just 53 minutes in the quarter-finals of the US$10,000 Cal-Comp & XYZ Printing ITF Men’s Futures 3 at True Arena yesterday.

The local young gun who needed up to three sets to beat the 625 th opponent the last time they met two weeks ago at this same venue dictated play with serves and aggressive groundstrokes to book his first semi-final since the Men’s Futures in Hong Kong in 2014.

The Thai was handed a gift from Quyang who doubled fault to give up the seventh game which was enough for Wishaya to take the opening set. The Chinese sprayed two backhands wide to drop another service game at 2-3.

One more net error propelled the Thai to a 5-2 lead before he came back to serve comfortably for the match which was over after Wishaya blast one of his impressive forehand winners.

“I played exactly the way I wanted to by holding serves and staying aggressive. I didn’t let him take control and pushed me away from my comfort zone,” said the 21-year-old Thai Wishaya, the only Thai hope left in the singles .

“Compared to the last time we played, I’m more confident and put more pressure on him. My game is getting better and better,” added Wishaya, the first Thai man to reach a semi-final of a Men’s Futures in 2016.

Next up for Wishaya is Japanese seventh seed Yusuke Takahashi who staged the biggest upset in the tournament by knocking out top seed Hong Seong Chan of South Korea, the last week’s finalist, 6-4 6-0 in 64 minutes.

“I’m playing my best tennis in two years. I have a tough opponent in the semi-final who is very persistent at the baseline. I need to maintain my level of play.”

Three of the four semi-final spots were booked by Japanese players. Jumpei Yamasaki stunned second seed Antoine Escoffier of France 6-4 2-6 6-0 while Renta Tokuda ousted South Korean teenager Chung Yunseong 6-3 7-6 (7-3).

In the doubles semi-final, Patcharapol Kawin and Jirat Navasirisomboon reached the final when Chung and Hong retired at 5-4 due to sickness.

Third seed He Yecong and Wang Aoxiong of China went down to Yuichi Ito and Yamasaki of Japan 6-4 6-4.
