Towards a kinder, gentler Islam
Islam is Islam. It is what it is. It is clearly defined in the Sira, the Haddhits, the lifestyle of Muhammad and the Koran.
ISIS claim to be Islamic fundamentalists emulating their prophet. In other words, they practise “true Islam”.
How can fundamental Islam defeat fundamental Islam without Islamists abandoning Sharia law and everything they stand for? Only Muslims who claim to be moderate can defeat fundamental Islam and they will only do that when they realise the truth about Islam. They would have to denounce the Sira, the Haddhits, the ways of Muhammad and the Koran. They would have to question the very fundamentals of their religion that is in fact a totalitarian political ideology.
Most Muslims are peaceful, friendly, sociable people who disown fundamentalists. It can only be assumed that Muslims who claim to be moderate are not fully conversant with the fundamentals underlying their belief. By disassociating from fundamentalists, they are in fact, without realising it, innocently turning their backs on true Islam. The only way to achieve “a kinder, gentler Islam” would be to rewrite history and erase the 7th century.
