After many centuries, the true word of Buddhism finally reaches Thailand

How enlightening to learn from JC Wilcox’s prolific pen that he knows what “true Buddhism” is but that Thais don’t, despite having studies and practised it for centuries. How inspiring, too, to learn that the end result of practising “true Buddhism” is a penchant for critical thinking and – wait for it – JC’s favourite topic, democracy.

Nothing is more flattering to the practitioners of any religion than to have some outsider come barging in and loftily inform them that they don’t understand their own religion. It will be interesting to see if any practising Buddhists respond. More likely they will choose, in the tradition of the Buddha himself, to maintain a noble silence.
