Brunei reaffirms commitment in support of Asean power grid

Dato Paduka Hj Hamdan Hj Abu Bakar attended the 34th Asean Ministers on Energy Meetin; the 10th East Asia Summit Energy Ministers Meeting and the 13th AMEM+3 on behalf of the Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office.
At the 34th Asean Ministers on Energy Meeting which carried the theme “Towards Greener Community with Cleaner Energy”, Brunei reported on its activities as chairman of the Asean Energy Regulators’ Network (AERN).

Energy security
Brunei reaffirmed AERN’s commitment to ensure the nation’s contribution and support in realising the Asean power grid in a bid to strengthen the region’s energy security.
 Meanwhile, at the 10th EAS EMM, the countries representatives discussed and exchanged views on the world energy situation and energy security challenges in the East Asia region as well as cooperation to address these challenges, the statement said.
At the 13th AMEM+3 meeting, the energy ministers discussed global and regional challenges such as volatile oil prices, energy security and adverse impact on climate change.
“The Asean+3 cooperation in energy focuses on enhancing energy connectivity and market integration to achieve energy security, accessibility, affordability and sustainability for the region,” the statement said.
The opening ceremony also commemorated the launching of the Asean Energy Business Forum 2016.
