Nudnida and Chinese Zhang Start Strong in Hua Hin Circuit 2
Former top 200 player Nudnida Luangnam and Chinese Zhang Yukun stormed into the second round of the Thailand ITF Tennis Women’s Pro Circuit 2 following a convincing 6-1 6-2 first round win at the True Arena Hua Hin on Monday.
The29-year-old from Sukhothai, who is on a comeback trail after months of injury break, will also be in actions in the singles event this week. Deeded sixth, she will open her campaign against Japanese Akari Inoue in the opening round on Tuesday.
In the other doubles first round match, Varunya Wongteanchai and Chinese Sheng Yuqi beat Shannon Cox of South Africa and Zheng Wushuang of China 6-4 6-2.
In the singles first round, 15-year-old Viktoria Morvayova of the Slovak Republic caused the biggest upset in the tournament by knocking out top seed Lu Jiaxi of China 2-9 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 in two hours and 49 minutes.
Fourth seed Zhao Di picked off Chinese compatriot Li Yixuan 6-3 7-6 (7-3 and Liu Si Qi ousted Ma Yexin 6-3 6-1 in another all Chinese match.
Dolavee Tumthong moved past Jaipet Anontaweesil 6-4 6-1 in the all wildcard entrant affair which was over in only 71 minutes.
