Singapore shines at US presidential debate

On his Facebook page on October 10 Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore praised Kenneth Sng, a Singaporean student studying at Washington University in St Louis, Missouri, for his opening remarks at the second US presidential debate.

Lee wrote, “Glad that he mentioned ‘Singapore, my home’ in his remarks. Well done, Kenneth. Keep the Singapore flag flying high.” Sng was chosen to welcome Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to the venue not because he is a Singaporean but as the host university’s student union president.
People in Singapore can be proud of an education system that got Sng this far. No matter the outcome of the debate, Singapore ended up a winner. Washington University should also be commended for giving its student leader, though not an American, a rare opportunity to take part in this important national event.
