All Thais Bow Out in Canberra

All Thais Bow Out in Canberra

The campaign of Thais in the US$50,000 ITF Women’s Circuit in Canberra came to a disappointing ending as they were eliminated from the singles and doubles competition on Thursday.

SEA Games champion Noppawan Lertcheewakarn was shown the exit by Japanese sixth seed Eri Hozumi 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 in the singles second round match which was over after one hour and 33 minutes.

Then Thai No 2 Varatchaya Wongteanchai who just celebrated her upset win over third seed Asia Muhammad of the United States on Wednesday went down to Japanese Yuuki Tanaka 6-2 7-5 after almost two hours of baseline duel.

In hope to salvage their pride in the doubles, the two teamed up together for the doubles quarter-final but things still did not go their way. They lost a grueling fight to top seed Arina Rodionova of Australia and Muhammad 6-3 1-6 9-11 in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile in Vietnam, Kittipong Wachiramanowong and Francis Alcantara of the Philippines went down to Moon Ju-hae and Noh Sang-Woo of South Korea 6-2 6-4 in the men’s doubles semi-finals of the US$10,000 ITF Men’s Futures 9 yesterday.
