Three leading Thai brands get together for a fashion show with a difference

LEADING THAI fashion brands Asava, Vickteerut, and Issue were on the catwalk recently at the Bangkok City Gallery for a fascinating show that underlined their independence in design and alternative approach to presentation,
Led by Polpat Asavaprapha, founder and creative director of Asavagroup, Aurapraphan Sudhinaraset managing director of Vickteerut, and Bhubawit Kritpholnara, director and founder of Issue, the “Fashion Field Trip the Gallery” offered an intriguing twist on fashion and art.
“Thai fashion continues to grow and fashion shows are at the heart of our work,” explained Polpat, who is also the president of the collective, Bangkok Fashion Society.
“We’ve put on the Fashion Field Trip for six years and the response has been amazing. The title underlines that this is not a typical runway show. Our designers are free to experiment as they wish. There are no rules.”
For its autumn-winter 2016 collection, Vickteerut has decided to play with light. “The silhouette, detail, and colour palette all relate to light,” Aurapraphan explained.

“Our design lab observed the refraction of light on various surfaces to create a new texture with various optical effects. The way light travels in a line in the dark is interpreted in the tailored collar. The way light falls on different surfaces is deconstructed, simplified, and layered to create the details that reflect the collection’s core concept.”
The colour palette remains basic white, grey, black, brown and beige with blue, green and red serving to create optical illusions.
Issue has never disappointed its fans and its new Courtyard collection is no exception, featuring colourful prints inspired by the Peranakan lifestyle and culture.

“Our embroidery, weaving and printing are combined with pop-up pieces to make the outfits and accessories exotic,” Bhubawit said
For its “Eye has to Travel” Autumn/Winter 16-17 collection, Asava takes fashionistas on a voyage through magazine pages of the past. Inspired by the 2011 documentary about the life and career of Diana Vreeland, one of the greatest fashion editors of modern times, the collection also draws on Caroline Issa, who reflects the true identity of the modern Asava women through her effortless flair.
The result is a series of contemporary silhouettes including a strapless jumpsuit, layered daywear, a tawny trench coat paired with rope-piping wide-legged pants, and a deep v-neck lace evening gown with a cape to embrace the winds of winter.
The colour palette of white, black, cream and navy is enhanced by rose blush, ecru, pistachio, tawny, and mignonette green and silver.
