The reason for unending carnage on Thai roads
So-called “tombstone regulation” concerns body counts. A body count (or a potential body count) is the factor that tends to sway people into doing something or saying something about a particular issue, such as road accidents or dangerous and illegally built hotels.
The extraordinary thing about Thailand is that, even after repeated high body counts, year in year out, people stay mum and nothing ever gets changed for the better.
Such is the fear and anxiety that people have when it comes to standing up and speaking out. Such is the known value placed on the lives and opinions of ordinary people.
