Thais should see silver linings in Trump presidency
Donald Trump as US president might be a good thing for Thailand in many ways.
First, Trump’s “Make America Great Again” policy will keep his government preoccupied with more important trade partners such as China and Mexico rather than pressing Thailand with stricter trade deals or sanctions.
Second, domestic politics in the US will be confused, disorderly or even chaotic. For at least a short period of time the US government will be too engrossed in its internal affairs to look at expanding investment and trade with the outside world.
And, lastly, for the first time ever, the political situation in Thailand will look calmer and more stable than that in the US.
