CP chief to attend meet on ‘golden year of Thai investments’

CP GROUP’S chief Dhanin Chearavanont and other senior Thai and foreign executives will take part in the Board of Investment’s “Opportunity Thailand” showcase on February 15, with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha delivering the keynote speech.

Hiranya Suchinai, secretary-general of the BOI, said yesterday that 2017 would be the “golden year of Thai investments” because of the issuance of three laws related to investment promotion and the development of transport and communications infrastructure to facilitate private investment.
BOI has prepared a plan to boost the confidence of Thai and foreign investors and persuade investment from abroad through holding seminars, overseas trips and roadshows.
The first activity, which will be the biggest seminar of the year, will be the Opportunity Thailand conference and exhibition that Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, PM’s Office Minister Suvit Maesincee and Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana will also attend.
World-renowned executives of firms that have investments in Thailand such as Airbus Industries, Japan’s Ajinomoto and China’s Huwei, as well as Siam Cement Group director Kan Trakulhul, will discuss how to materialise the “Thailand 4.0” vision.
The afternoon session involves the three target industries of aviation, automation and robotics, and medical devices.
Experts and academia will give their views on how to foster these three “industries of the future”, Hiranya said.
There will also a business-matching event between small and medium-sized enterprises and big firms in the aviation industry such as Rolls-Royce to help enhance the market’s assessment of Thai players in the industry. About 70 foreign media are invited to learn about the investment promotion policy as well as to visit the area designated as the Eastern Economic Corridor, which aims to become a new economic gateway of Asean.
“So far there are more than 1,500 senior executives from Thailand and abroad who have accepted the invitation to join in the event.
“There will be a total of 2,500 executives taking part in the seminar as targeted, most of them are at managerial levels. Therefore, BOI is confident the conference will create confidence among investors,” he she said.
The BOI will hold a series of activities throughout the year, focusing on targeted companies here and abroad.
It will disseminate information on the amended and new investment laws and Thailand 4.0 policy, via reputable local and foreign media.
It will go on roadshows to Singapore, India, South Korea, the United States, Germany, Sweden and Japan this quarter.
China, Japan, Australia, Russia, the US, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Norway and Germany will follow in the middle of the year.
