Six Movenpick properties to open here in 18 months

THAILAND continues to be a key strategic destination for Swiss hospitality group Movenpick Hotels & Resorts’ growth strategy, with six properties slated for launch in the next 18 months.

“In fact, we are the only hotel chain that will double its portfolio of operating hotels in Thailand in the next 18 months,” said Andrew Langdon, the company’s chief development officer and senior vice president for Asia.
In the first month of this year, the company marked its debut in Indonesia and Sri Lanka with the opening of Movenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali and Movenpick Hotel Colombo.
The new properties on track to open in Thailand are Movenpick Residences Ekkamai Bangkok next month, followed by Movenpick Asara Resort & Spa Hua Hin, which will be fully renovated and opened in the third quarter.
Movenpick Hotel Chiang Mai and Movenpick Resort Khao Yai are next in line to be launched, followed by hotel openings on Koh Samui and on Mai Khao Beach in Phuket.
“We are not only adding new properties but we are also introducing new concepts to Thailand this year with a long-term accommodation option in Ekkamai, Bangkok – our first Movenpick Residences in Asia,” Langdon said.
“We plan to become a major operator of serviced residences in Thailand, both in Bangkok and also in other destinations around the country.”
Elsewhere in the region, Movenpick Resort & Spa Boracay in the Philippines will also open this year, and the brand recently announced a partnership with Viet Group Joint Stock Company to build a new upscale property in Vietnam to be known as Movenpick Hotel Quang Binh.
