Uber launches restaurant food delivery

UBER Thailand has teamed up with the Business Development Department to promote Thai restaurants via its application UberEATS, which the company say will create opportunities for Thai restaurants to serve consumers using food-delivery technology.

Thailand is the second country in Asean where UberEATS has been unveiled after Singapore.
Uber signed a memorandum of understanding with the department in exchange for information about Thailand’s restaurant database.
Allen Penn, regional general manager of UberEATS, said yesterday that the application was being used in 57 cities in over 20 countries and its success meant he was confident it would add efficiency to Thai restaurants.
“The company is looking forward to sharing our expertise in integrating technology with the restaurant industry, especially Thai SMEs [small and medium-sized enterprises] who would like to expand their businesses and customers bases with low cost of operation via an application. This will also serve Thailand’s 4.0 policy on digital economy,” he said.
Restaurants interested in using UberEATS can register from now until March 10. Restaurants that secure the application within that period will be spared the initial activation free.
So far, more than 200 restaurants have adopted the technology.
UberEATS will be activated from 10am to 10pm and cover major districts in Bangkok including Silom, Pathumwan, Ploenchit, Nana, Asoke, Thong Lor and Ekkamai.
UberEATS will provide restaurants with a marketing and advertising channel.
Ubder described the application as a world-class food delivery tool that had innovated the platform for restaurant operators, while also creating convenience for consumers looking to enjoy restaurant-level quality and save money and time travelling.
Banjongjitt Angsusingh, director-general of the department, said there were 11,947 restaurants registered with the department with a combined initial registered capital of Bt75.75 billion. Of the total, 1,660 have received development assistance from the department to play a more crucial role in driving economic growth, Banjongjitt said . She said UberEATS would create greater opportunities for restaurants to reach more consumers, while helping consumers access good-quality restaurants without having to travel to them.
