Nine classics to be screened this year at Scala

After the success in screening classic films in local cinemas last year, the Film Archive (Public Organisation) Thailand, has decided to maintain the tradition. Nine classic films, all remastered, will be shown under the World Class Cinema Screening programme at Scala theatre every month.

After the success in screening classic films in local cinemas last year, the Film Archive (Public Organisation) Thailand, has decided to maintain the tradition. Nine classic films, all remastered, will be shown under the World Class Cinema Screening programme at Scala theatre every month.

Acknowledged classics, the films are a great educational experience for students and movie aficionados, and the fact that these classics have been remastered and can be watched on the big screen will enhance the experience.

The screening begins on March 12 with the Hollywood classic “Gone with the Wind”, which was released in 1939 and runs for 226 minutes. 

On April 9, fans of Marilyn Monroe can watch her in “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”.

On May 14, the movie that gave birth to the legend of Bruce Lee, “The Big Boss”, will be screened. The film was shot in Thailand. 

On July 2, James Dean’s well-known film “Rebel without a Cause” will be shown.

On August 13, the war classic “The Bridge on the River Kwai” will be screened. Released in 1957, the film was directed by the master David Lean and some Thai actors were part of the film, including Vilaiwan Wattanapanich.

On September 17, director Stanely Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” will be screened. It’s a great opportunity for film students to study the movie on the big screen.

On October 15, the 1966 western classic “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”, directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood, will be shown.

On November 12, it’s time for the musical classic “The Fiddler on the Roof”. 

The programme ends on December 2 with the epic film “The Ten Commandments”, directed by Cecil B Demille and starring Charston Heston.
