Grab partners with card providers to promote cashless payment system

SOUTHEAST ASIAN ride-hailing platform Grab has partnered with eight Thai providers of credit and debit cards to launch the “Get More with GrabPay” promotion to encourage consumer adoption of secure, cashless payments using its GrabPay proprietary mobile-payments platform.

All holders of credit and debit cards of Citibank, Krungsri Credit Card, Bangkok Bank, Kasikornbank, Krungthai Card, United Overseas Bank, Krungsri First Choice, and Tesco Lotus Credit Card are eligible for the promotion.
The promotion began on March 1 and runs until the end of the month.
Consumers who add credit and debit cards from these card issuers to GrabPay and make cashless transactions for any Grab service – rides using GrabTaxi, GrabCar, GrabCar Premium and GrabBike (delivery) – receive a Bt100 discount for first-time GrabPay users, with a further Bt50 discount for up to eight transactions.
In addition, they may receive further cash back of up to Bt270 depending on the card issuer.
Wee Tang Yee, country head of Grab Thailand, said the company’s services were now available in 35 cities across six countries supported by 710,000 drivers regionally.
The company says it wants to use its position to accelerate the region’s transformation into a digital economy with wider use of mobile payments including GrabPay.
“Our partnership with trusted local banks seeks to highlight the convenience of going cashless and the security underpinning GrabPay transactions to our passengers,” he said.
“The GrabPay in-app solution was first launched regionally in January 2016 to provide a more seamless ride experience for our passengers and drivers by removing the hassle of making cash payments at the completion of each ride. In addition to supporting credit- and debit-cards payments, GrabPay also supports AliPay with a one-time registration.”
To establish trust and security, Grab says it works with best-in-class providers to implement global standards and practices as well as investing in strengthening its proprietary risk and fraud detection system. The system allows Grab to secure and maintain a low fraud rate, it says.
