Cherry trees are in bloom in Singapore

Cherry trees are in bloom in Singapore

The Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore has become a forest of pink sakura for “Blossom Bliss”, continuing through March 24.

For the second time, the Gardens gather more than 20 species of cherry blossoms under one roof to show how easily the tree adapts in the tropics – once several challenges are overcome to ensure it thrives in the heat.
“Despite the challenges involved in bringing sakura to Singapore, we were encouraged by the good feedback from the public last year to do another floral display this year,” says chief operating officer Felix Loh. “We hope our visitors once again experience the sense of wonder that these beautiful, short-lived blooms evoke.”
The pink and white garden is set in a beautiful, Japanese-inspired landscape. The cherry trees include Prunus accolade and Prunus subhirtella pendula trees in unusual weeping forms, and Prunus Snow Fountain and Prunus Fukubana producing profuse clusters of rich flowers. There’s also a picturesque tree-lined pathway where traditional rickshaws are parked, a popular backdrop for selfies.
Cherry trees bloom for only a week or two. Check the “Gardens by the Bay” page on Facebook to check their progress before you visit.
Gardens by the Bay is part of the Marina Bay Sands resort and open daily from 9 to 9. Admission is Bt700. Find out more at www.GardensByTheBay.com.sg/blossombliss.
