High kicks and holy relics

High kicks and holy relics

Action movie fans who haven’t yet seen the new show “Ong Bak Live Show” at Show DC Bangkok can take advantage of special ticket prices being offered at the “Thong Thai Thong Loke” travel show that continues until Sunday (March 19) at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani.

The show, which is running in the complex’s Ultra Arena, combines stage play and stunt show in a non-verbal performance. The 75-minute performance follows the movie’s storyline and the film’s memorable scenes. At the centre of the plot is Boonting (played by Phanom “Tony Jaa” Yeerum in the movie) who goes to Bangkok in search of the head of a sacred Buddha image that’s been stolen by Western looters. The kicks and punches, though, are real enough and the special effects certainly makes “Ong Bak” stand out from other tourist shows in town.
The 1,143-seat theatre provides a giant stage and a 21-metre ceiling, far higher than the usual 12-16 metres. This allows for more spectacular scenes in the show, on which the show creator Vinit Lertratanachai is collaborating with Scenario’s Takonkiet Viravan and the movie’s director Prachya Pinkaew.
The special ticket prices are for seats in the Grand Circle seat at Bt999 from the normal price at Bt2,000 and the seats in the Dress circle zone selling at Bt799 from Bt1,500. There are two shows daily from Tuesday to Sunday.
