Swimming with the sharks
A world-class site for scuba diving and snorkelling, the five-star Hurawalhi Island Resort in Maldives is home to the spectacular coral reefs of the Lhaviyani Atoll and a plethora of marine life.
Divers can swim alongside schools of blue-stripe snapper, bannerfish, fusiliers and oriental sweetlips and observe butterflyfishfeeding on the coral. The most popular stars are reef sharks, which patrol the reefs and are a regular sight at many of the dive sites, as well manta rays.
The house reef is easily accessible with tank service provided to the entry points to allow guests to dive all day. The Lhaviyani Atoll boasts more than 50 dive sites with new ones being discovered on a regular basis.
The in-house dive centre runs single dive trips (morning and afternoon) and regularly organises day trips to showcase the very best diving the Maldives has to offer. The resort has its own Marine Biology Centre with an in-house Marine Biologist collaborating with Manta Trust, the marine and conservation specialists.
Manta Trust also teams up with the Island’s in-house PADI instructors to provide educational guided dives and snorkelling in the spectacular reefs and shipwrecks nearby. The Island is a nesting site for green turtles and a breeding ground for Manta Rays.
