MAJOR AIRPORTS EXPECT 5.36M ARRIVALS FOR SONGKRAN FESTIVAL

MAJOR AIRPORTS EXPECT 5.36M ARRIVALS FOR SONGKRAN FESTIVAL

More than 5 million passengers are expected to arrive at Thailand’s six main airports during the Songkran festival this year. Airports of Thailand president Nitina Sirisamatthakarn said AOT expected more than 5.36 million arrivals during the water-splash festival, Thai National News Bureau reported on Tuesday.

From April 5-18, AOT expects 32,357 flights to land at the six airports, averaging about 2,312 a day, Nitina said.
The AOT has prepared measures to assist passengers by keeping the facilities clean, increasing the number of baggage carriers and providing additional shuttle buses from the airport.
A service centre will also be set up and will operate around the clock.

‘CHECK BEFORE SHARE’  COMBATS FAKE NEWS

Digital agencies and private organisations on Tuesday jointly launched www.checkgornshare.com as a tool for the Thai online community to check and verify facts before sharing information on social media.
The “Check Gorn Share” (Check before Share) campaign is aimed at promoting analytical and critical thinking in the online community, as well as raising awareness of the societal damage caused by rash, irresponsible sharing of fake news.
The campaign is a collaboration among Rabbit’s Tale, Moonshot Digital and Creative Juice Bangkok, with support from private organisations including PTT, Siam Cement Group, Siam Commercial Bank and the Thai Webmaster Association.
The group realised that the spread of false or twisted information online could mislead the general public and cause them to perceive a certain situation incorrectly.
Recognising such impacts, members of the network – each an expert in its own field – joined forces to design an instrument, www.checkgornshare.com, to set some ethical standards pertaining to the sharing of information on social media and to improve the quality of the online community.
The website is simple to use. If people are not sure whether a piece of news they read is true or false, they can put a keyword or link in the search box, and the system will then verify the facts, or otherwise.
