First they’ll need your cash – it’s a crowd-funded project – so head to www.IndieGoGo.com.

Wisit Sasanatieng, Apichatphong Weerasethakul, Aditya Assarat, Chookiat Sakveerakul and Chulayarnnon Siriphol are hoping to carry on in the same vein as “10 Years”, produced in Hong Kong in 2015.

That film was a success at the box office and generated some interesting dialogue among viewers about the future of Hong Kong.

The people who made it want to continue the “mission” elsewhere in Asia and are in discussion with directors around the region.

Aditya talks about the project in a promotional clip at the website, titled “How Do You See Your Country in Ten Years’ Time?”

“The Hong Kong producers thought it was a good idea for other Asian countries to ask themselves the same question, so they sort of handed the question forward to us,” he says.

Apichatphong points out in the same clip that film is “a powerful medium”.

“It’s been used for propaganda as well as other purposes. I think it is fundamentally propaganda, but it depends on how we negotiate with the medium in creating a common space where different ideas, beliefs and identities are shared and people are allowed to express themselves in a way that otherwise couldn’t be done in the public sphere.”

The idea to finance the movie through crowdfunding arose because the idea of “many investors investing in one film” and the chance to hear “new voices” appealed to the directors, says Apichatphong.

“I usually buy a movie ticket for, let’s say Bt100 or Bt120,” adds Aditya. “But this way, instead of purchasing your ticket at the cinema, you’re preordering it. You’re buying the ticket during the actual filmmaking process.”
