North Korea: our leaders need to find some active braincells

It would be hard to disagree with SD Little’s thoughts regarding the unacceptable posture of North Korean politics, of which there are many facets.

This state of affairs has been going on for two generations or more now, and is characterised by the inertia of the international community to bring about what is euphemistiscally called ‘regime change’, or something approximating, to settlement of this most vexed of issues.
It is however rather too optimistic at this juncture to assume that a peaceful solution can be found, seeing as the hysterical rhetoric emanating from Pyongyang carries aggressive overtones and also bearing in mind that Seoul is well within range of Kim’s artillery pieces, nuclear weapons notwithstanding.
As far as China is concerned, and that is a major part of this conundrum obviously, that country is already facing a string of US bases in containment configuration around its coastline, irrespective of De Laurent’s facile waffle, and the thought of yet more US military bases parked at the Yalu River doubtless keeps the elites in Beijing awake at night.
That a solution is needed is beyond doubt; let’s hope our so-called ‘leaders’ can find some active brain cells for once and earn their inflated rewards, rather than uselessly pontificating from the sidelines.
