A fine romance

A fine romance

Two young Russian musicians will pay tribute to history’s greatest Russian master composers at a special concert with the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra that honours the memory of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana.

It’s being staged at the Thailand Cultural Centre on May 21 at 8pm.

A supporter of the orchestra as well as many other musical activities in Thailand, the Princess assisted immeasurably with the development of young artists in the Kingdom. The highly emotional works of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff were  amongst her most treasured listening pleasures, and the former’s 4th symphony and latter’s 3rd piano concerto were also said to be personal favourites of the composers.
Established concert pianist Andrey Gugnin has performed to great acclaim in Thailand before and brings the most technically challenging of all Romantic piano concertos to the stage.
“Rach 3”, as it is known in music circles, was made famous by the Oscarwinning 1996 film “Shine”, a true story about a brilliant Australian student at London’s Royal College of Music who had to struggle with his demons in order to master this magnum opus.
Conductor Yuri Medianik is known for his unhindered exuberance on the podium, a perfect match for the second half of this allRussian concert which opens with Tchaikovsky’s infamous “fate” motif.
Tickets cost from Bt400 to Bt2,000 at Thai Ticket Major counters. Call (02) 262 3456 or visit www.ThaiTicketMajor.com.
