Tanongsak, Ratchanok to lead Thai challenge

Top Thai players Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk and Ratchanok Intanon will lead the local challenge in the SCG Thailand Open, a World Grand Prix Gold event which will be elevated to the Super Series level next year.

Badminton Association of Thailand president Patama Leeswadtrakul said the two aces along with the in-form mixed doubles team of Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai will represent Thailand in the Open, which will be held at Nimibutr National Stadium from May 30 to June 4.

Patama said he expects the Thais to win at least two of the five events that will be featured in the tournament. Last year Tanongsak won the men’s singles title and Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai took the women’s doubles crown.

The organisers will use state-of-the-art technology, including Multimedia Screen and Tunnel Signature, to introduce players onto the court as a test for the first Super Series in Thailand next year.

Fans can watch live coverage on True 686 on June 3 and 4 and Channel 3SD will beam live coverage of the finals on June 4.
