New Rioja wines take a bow

New Rioja wines take a bow

Pimpisa Chirathivat, Ploy Bhinsaeng, Pimpisa and Pichamon Chomanan, Panitta Sornthaiteva, Supachai Kanjanasakchai and Marina Balenciaga were among the celebrities who turned out to Uno Mas on the 54th floor of Centara Grand at Central World for the launch of new Spanish wine Campo Viejo.

Quentin Job, managing director of Pernod Ricard (Thailand), introduced the latest wine brand from Spain, which includes the ruby-red Reserva, a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo grapes, and Tempranillo, cherry-red wine made with 100-per-cent Tempranillo. These two wines are from Rioja, a famous wine region that’s home to some of the best wineries in the world. Campo Viejo's dedication to Rioja winemaking using the most advanced techniques available has allowed the brand to create modern twists on traditional winemaking methods to deliver progressive styles of Rioja wines that satisfy today’s discerning modern palates.

The celebrities admitted to being impressed by the new wines.  “There are many great moments in my life – enjoying time with my family, relaxing with friends, and celebrating success at work – where wine is my beverage of choice.  I particularly enjoyed this event as it introduced the new wine brand in a mysterious way. Personally, I like Campo Viejo Reserva, because it has a nice aroma and a lingering flavour.”

Marina Balenciaga agreed, saying: “It was such a fun night. I felt as if I were back in Spain. I grew up in Rioja, so this takes me back to my childhood. My favourite wine would be Campo Viejo Tempranillo, because it’s delicate and fresh.”

Campo Viejo Tempranillo is a bold and fresh wine that showcases the vibrancy of the vineyard. On the nose, its rich aromas have a pronounced intensity with an initial scent of ripe red fruit followed by gentle sweet notes of vanilla and spices.

Campo Viejo Reserva is an approachable yet complex wine, capturing the very best that Rioja has to give.  There is a great balance between the fruit (cherries, black plums, ripe blackberries) and the clean nuances coming from the wood (clove, pepper, vanilla and coconut). The nose is further enriched by the aromas that develop during bottle ageing. It is smooth and balanced on the palate with a full, elegant feel and a long, lingering finish. Reserva is a perfect pairing with roasted red meats, mature cheese, and Blue cheese.
