Junta appears to have a firm hand on the floodgates

Re: “Whoever ruled out 2017 flood disaster must have hotline to God”, Have Your Say, June 1.

When the government predicted that flooding this year won’t be as catastrophic as in 2011, during Yingluck’s tenure, it confirmed my gut feeling that the 2011 floods were not entirely the work of Mother Nature.
The 2011 flood took 815 lives, affected 13.6 million people and cost the economy Bt1.45 trillion in damages.
It was the worst in history in terms of the amount of water and people affected.
At the time I suspected that someone had intentionally released too much water from main dams in order to undermine Yingluck’s government. (For those who scoff at that idea, please remember, “This is Thailand”.) It is noteworthy that a severe drought followed in 2012-2013.
Was the government’s prediction a Freudian slip?
