FIRST AND business-class travellers flying with Singapore Airlines now have “a home away from home” with the opening of the new SilverKris Lounge at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. 
Part of an ongoing multiyear project to upgrade its airport lounges around the world, Bangkok is the second city to adopt the Home Away from Home concept in creating a high-end travel experience. 
A short walk from immigration area, this new 130-seat lounge is in the Concourse D zone and occupies 513 square metres. Renowned architectural and interior design firm Ong & Ong created the contemporary look as well as personal spaces for travellers to enjoy. 
“Our new SilverKris Lounge at Suvarnabhumi Airport brings the ‘Home Away from Home’ concept to Thailand for the first time. We are famous for warm, authentic and personalised service in the air and this new Bangkok lounge will help us deliver this in new ways on the ground too. We believe that the familiar, homely environment will be well received by our customers as we assure them that they will be taken care of at every step of their journey,” says Philip Goh, Singapore Airlines regional vice president for Southeast Asia.
“The SilverKris Lounge has more space and is closer to the gate. We’ve incorporated a counter bar that serves a full range of tailored cocktails, drinks, draft beer and coffee. Customers can take advantage of personal work seats and productivity corners, equipped with USB ports and electron sockets. The renovation will continue to London, Hong Kong, Sydney and Manila.” 
Inspired by the iconic kebeya sarong, the entrance is screened with the elegant Singapore Airlines signature batik motif and the SIA logo is clearly displayed on the granite stone wall. Inside, the lounge is divided into four zones that borrow from a homey layout, featuring a gallery space, living room, dining room and full-scale counter bar. 
A selection of curated art pieces from Thailand and Singapore is displayed in the Gallery and a reading space has several kinds of books and magazines from which to choose. Spacious and decorated in cosy earth tones, the living room is furnished with wingback armchairs to provide extra comfort for relaxation and napping. 
Designed for business travellers, a productivity corner is a good place to work in privacy complete with electric sockets and USB ports. Other customers can take advantage of free high-speed Wi-Fi connection.
 In a middle of the lounge, professional bartenders show off their skills in creating tailored drinks at a 12-seat counter bar. Customers can enjoy a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, ranging from cocktails, liquors, mocktails, beers to gourmet coffees and Thai teas. 
A buffet-style dining area offers Singaporean, Thai and Western cuisine including laksa, Hainanese chicken rice, tom yum goong, Som Tum, fried spring rolls, chicken green curry, coconut ice cream and fresh coconut juice. 
Equipped with a high-tech sensor system, the washroom provides aromatic hand wash, lotions and aroma diffusers created by Thai brand Siam Botanicals using only natural ingredients.
