Energy Ministry supports ‘Asean Sustainable Energy Week’

Energy Ministry supports ‘Asean Sustainable Energy Week’

“Asean Sustainable Energy Week”, which is running from Wednesday to Saturday in Bangkok, is the largest and most comprehensive showcase of technologies and equipment in renewable energy, environmental protection, and energy efficiency, Energy Minister Anantaporn Kanjanarat said at the event’s opening ceremony.

The event also showcases the "Thai Water Expo", an international exhibition on water and wastewater technology.
Asean Sustainable Energy Week is being held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Bitec) in Bang Na district.
Anantaporn said “Thailand Energy 4.0” was a key priority for innovation in this highly important area and took into consideration the fact that dependence on imported fossil fuels is not only economically and ecologically unfeasible, it also exposes the country to the unpredictability of global commodity markets.
He said his ministry had a policy to promote renewable energy usage in line with other government policies to increase sustainable growth for the energy sector.
The ministry will move forward with the process of implementing the Alternative Energy Development Plan of 2015. The goal is to increase the share of renewable sources by up to 30 per cent of the country's total energy consumption and to achieve this by 2036.
To achieve the goal, the ministry will emphasise three key strategies – support, cooperation and enforcement – so that the industrial, construction, housing and government sectors will learn, develop, and adapt to Energy 4.0, he said.
