Eating for a cause

Eating for a cause

The People Eye Care Foundation (PECF) provides free cataract operations for people in need each month at eye camps in rural communities around Thailand. After the operation a patch or pad is placed over the patient’s eye for protection

Playing with the word “pad”, the PECF has come up with the campaign “Eat Pad Thai to Pad-Thai-Eyes” to encourage people to make a donation when they eat the popular dish pad thai and by doing so helping to “Pad-Thai-Eyes” after cataract surgery.
The PECF has already raised more than Bt500,000 by organising pad thai parties for supporters at the Siam Society, the British Club and the British Embassy, but wants to expand the project to generate more income. With the help of the Capital TV (Destination Thailand) team and the support of the Blue Elephant Cooking School and Restaurant and celebrities Andrew Biggs, Natalie Glebova, Iang Sittha Sapanuchart and PECF mascot, Nicholas Bear (Khun Fox), it plans to produce a short promotional video to post on YouTube and share on social media.
The campaign targets individuals eating pad thai as well as Thai restaurants in Thailand and around the world. Individuals can share a selfie while eating this dish and make a donation to the PECF and Thai restaurants can participate by adding a premium to their pad thai dish, which they will donate on behalf of their customers to PECF.
To support the “Pad Thai Eyes” project, take a selfie while eating pad thai and upload to social media and #padthaieyes and make a donation to PECF through Rabbit LINE Pay Donation Menu or Bangkok Bank Account 876-7-04284-2. Account Name: “eat pad thai help thai eye”. You can also eat pad thai at a participating Thai restaurant when you see the Pad Thai Eyes logo to help support the PECF to restore eye sight to those in need.
