Why globalism is not modern-day colonialism

Why globalism is not modern-day colonialism

The validity and worthiness of a letter to the editor depends on the logic and truth of its premises. When the premises are wrong, the letter becomes worthless, illogical.

A prime example is the letter by the ill-informed Holzer, published on Saturday, in which she equates globalism with conquering other countries and making them colonies (“Fight is no longer between left and right, but globalism vs nationalism”).
This equation shows a disturbing lack of understanding of the concept of globalism. “Globalism” means to connect with the world, enabling the free movement of products, services, people and capital. Trade deals, among others, are a prime tool to realise the positive effects of globalism. This is so simple to understand that even a child can see the logic: lowering tariffs and other barriers brings down the costs of products, services, labour. Capital costs also become cheaper, augmenting the disposal income of the people. Of course, some production and its workers are hurt, but the positive effects are far greater than the negative. All studies on the effects of trade deals come to the same conclusion: they have a net positive effect.
It is a riddle to me that people like Holzer can stand to live in a country like Thailand, where the effects of globalism irritate them all the time. I would advise that to escape these effects she could join an isolated tribe, like the San in the Kalahari Desert. And please make sure to take fellow globalist conspiracy theorist JC Wilcox with you.
