High above Bangkok, a night to remember

High above Bangkok, a night to remember

The countdown to the New Year has already begun and The Dome at lebua has announced its programme for the event with the world’s highest ball drop, epicurean feasts, and a dazzling fireworks display along the Chao Phraya riverside.

Each restaurant will also offer a one-night-only menu to ring in 2018. Chef Ryuki Kawasaki’s eight-course gastronomic experience for Bt25,999–plus per person at the Mezzaluna on the 65th floor will feature Brittany Blue Lobster with veal sweetbread, macaroni, Paris mushroom, and lobster bisque with Cognac; Dover Sole with Hard clams, lily bulbs, baby leek, and Perigord black truffles, and Japanese Matsusaka Beef with endives cannelloni with wild mushrooms, artichoke and black truffles.
Under the stars on the 63rd floor, the world’s highest alfresco restaurant, Sirocco offers a sweeping panorama of the magical cityscape below and an exceptional eight-course Mediterranean menu for Bt21,999-plus by chef Sebastien Pinson with highlights such as New Boston Lobster Tortellini, cauliflower puree, brown butter, in a Champagne-lime froth; Artichoke & Alba White Truffle Risotto with a wild mushroom casserole, and shallot cream, and French Quail with roasted chestnut stuffing, squash puree, wild cherries, and Sangiovese sauce.
At the open-air Breeze on the 52nd floor, where design and service come together high above the Bangkok skyline, chef Sam Pang’s exquisite Pan-Asian culinary journey for Bt23,999-plus takes in Shanghai-Style Roasted Barbarie Duck, apple wood smoked, golden egg yolk pancake and AmStur Royal caviar; Silver Pomfret Fish in a wrap, served with steamed Chaozhou style sour vegetables, and Japanese Wagyu Beef cote de boeuf among other Asian delicious delights.
Sumptuous seven-course menus are also available at Distil and Alfresco 64 – a Chivas Bar. At Distil, diners can enjoy Hokkaido Scallop Carpaccio, Black Truffle Agnolotti, and Salted Bush Lamb Rack, while the latter offers Fassona Veal Tartare, Mediterranean Cod “Brandade” and Canadian Lobster Noisette among other delightful delicacies.
For those looking to join the celebrations just for drinks, packages are also available at Flute Bar for Bt30,000-plus per couple with one bottle of Perrier-Jouet, Cuvee Belle Epoque, Brut Champagne and premium canapes. Meanwhile, Alfresco 64 offers four signature cocktails for Bt8,999-plus per person and Distil serves two glasses of Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut Champagne for Bt8,999-plus.
Two glasses of Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut Champagne are also available at both outlets – Sky Bar and Vantage Point - for Bt7,999-plus per person and Vintage Point
Continuing the now annual tradition, the iconic Bangkok Ball Drop will once again put the city on the map of year-end celebrations around the world. Suspended 872 feet in the air, the Bangkok Ball Drop at lebua is the highest in the world. It broke the world record for the highest ball drop when it was unveiled in 2013, surpassing the Times Square Ball Drop in New York. At midnight the seven-foot ball will descend 49 feet from above Sirocco. Made in Thailand by a team of 50 engineers and craftsmen who factor altitude, wind gusts and visibility into the construction, the ball weighs in at 1.2 tons. It consists of a steel frame of 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons, covered with a translucent fabric, and includes 2,950 LED lights, and 50 strobe lights.
