Luksika in back-to-back WTA quarter- finals
Luksika Kumkhum reached back-to-back WTA quarter-finals after she ousted Czech teenager Marie Bouzkova 6-4 6-3 in the US$125,000 Taipei OEC Open in Taiwan on Thursday.
The in-form Luksika who upset seventh seed Ana Bogdan of Romania 2-6 7-6 (9-7) 7-5 in round one proved more consistent in the baseline duel against the 19-year-old Bouzkova to win the match in one hour and 28 minutes.
“She hits flat groundstrokes. So I need to attack her first and keep the balls in play at the same time,” said the 126th-ranked Luksika who is determined to reach the top 110 by the end of the year in hope to get a maindraw spot for the Australian Open.
The Thai also reached the home WTA event in Hua Hin last week where she went down to Swiss Viktorija Golubic in straight sets 6-7 (2-7) 0-6.
She stands a shot at making amends against the Swiss, who upset top seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in straight sets, in the quarter-finals on Friday.
