In full glorious bloom
Central Chidlom and Central Embassy are ablaze with colour right now as the retail giant fetes its 70th anniversary with an extra special edition of its annual flower festival featuring a wealth of A-listers, celebrities, and superstars, including actress Patcharaba “Aum” Chaichua.
The theme of the celebration is “Love and Appreciation” and is an expression of thanks to its customers and business partners over the past decades.
The highlights, in addition to the mesmerizing floral displays, include extravagant fashion shows, live music and the appearance of ‘The Phoenix Queen’, wearing in the largest brown pearls in the world and feather-shaped diamonds valued at more than Bt700 million on loan from Beauty Gems.
“Central has arranged fresh flower extravaganzas at Central Department Stores for the past 23 years. This year is more special, as it gives us the chance to spread happiness to our customers and visitors, while thanking them for their custom throughout the last 70 years, which has enabled us to become the best-loved and number one department store in Thailand. Along with General Card Services, which operates Central’s The 1 Credit Card, we are presenting millions of fresh Thai and imported flowers including flower walls, tunnels and the highlight Gigantic Flower Carpets in a large glass house,” enthused chief executive Yuwadee Chirathivat.
This year’s flower festival is a cacophony of vivid colours and wonderful fragrances and runs through Monday night (November 20) on all six floors of Central Chidlom. Highlights include a Cactus Garden on the second floor with a giant cradle swing, a history of the last decade of flower festivals at Central on the third, and the fourth floor accommodating a wooden structured tunnel of flowers that is perfect for photo opportunities. The fifth floor is an oasis of peace and serenity with white lace and flowers merging together in beautiful structures, the sixth floor houses a large floral cow to amuse the kids in the Children’s department and the seventh floor offers produce from the Royal Project, including flowers.
All these displays are brought together with a magnificent 6-storey plume of red-coloured flowers from the 1st floor and walls of roses. Thirty well-known singers take it in turns to entertain on the third floor at 2pm, 4pm, and 7pm, among them include Phon (Pete), The Parkinson, Marium B5, Modern Dog, New-Jiew, Warlike, and Wan Thanakit. Floral designer Pom Wang is holding flower cards workshops while Bigham hosts portraiture drawing classes.
Over at Central Embassy, the festival continues through November 26, with an interactive floral tunnel, leading to a two-storey ‘Glass House’, where you can gaze down on the 16 square-metre ‘carpets of flowers’. Here too, each level offers something new and interesting to do, with Flower Ceramic workshops by Aromdee Art Studio, Perfume Making workshops by Natural Teller on Level 2; the Central Food Hall Blossom Market, with over 20 stalls and a flower market; activities and workshops for the kids at Open House on Level 6, and the opportunity to join in a worthwhile charity cause with our ‘Our Canvas’, where you can help to decorate a large canvas with stickers and donate to the ‘Million Gifts, Million Smiles’ charity campaign. You can also meet Pramote Karum, the talented flower designer, who was Thailand’s representative at the prestigious WorldSkills event in Abu Dhabi.
