Rice, with pasta on the side to pesticides

Rice, with pasta on the side to pesticides

“Time to take kid gloves off in this food fight”, by Eric Bahrt, Letters, November 30.

Mr Bahrt is correct in saying that I did not read his letter in which he purportedly stated that meat contains the highest levels of pesticide residues.
Nonetheless, this still does not change the fact that over 60 per cent of the fruit and vegetables tested by the Thailand Pesticide Alert Network contained very high levels of pesticides.
My point was that, even if eating vegetables is sufficient for the human diet, it is useless to take them if they are laced with pesticides. Instead of admitting this, the above writer had to bring meat into the conversation, implying that one eats either meat or vegetables.
But there is another way. Perhaps we should do what Asians have been doing for centuries, and eat rice for the main meal, adding maybe a dish of pasta on the side.
