Somkid takes the reins of 11 ministries and agencies

THE Cabinet yesterday acknowledged Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s assignment of Deputy PM Somkid Jatusripitak to oversee the activities of 11 economic agencies, following the recent reshuffle of the Cabinet. 

The 11 agencies are the Finance Ministry, the Foreign Ministry, the Tourism and Sports Ministry, the Transport Ministry, the Commerce Ministry, the Science and Technology Ministry, the Industry Ministry, the National Economic and Social Development Board, the Board of Investment, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
Meanwhile, deputy PM Prajin Juntong has been assigned to oversee the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Energy Ministry, Education Ministry, Justice Ministry, National Research Council of Thailand, The Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (Public Organisation), Office of Knowledge Management and Development (Public Organisation) and the Thailand Research Fund.
The premier also assigned PM Office minister Korbsak Pootrakool to oversee the Office of SMEs Promotion, and assigned another PM Office minister Suwapan Tanyuvardhana to oversee MCOT and the National Health Commission Office.
Yesterday new Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong delivered his policies to senior ministry officials, saying that the ministry would focus on strenghtening the grass root economy, seeking new markets for agricultural produce and keep growth momentum of the export sector.
To improve the grass root economy, Sontirat said that the ministry will focus on the 11 million low-income people registered with the Finance Minister by providing them with training to boost their income. 
The ministry will also collaborate with small and community outlets to support their sales of local products. 
The ministry will promote small and medium-sized enterprises in the export of their products and distribution through online platform.
He added that the ministry will have to find new markets for agriculture produce in support of Thai farmers.
