AIS to spend Bt873m on call centre

ADVANCED Info Service (AIS) is spending Bt873 million to set up a call centre training facility in Nakorn Ratchasima province.

The AIS Contact Centre Development & Training Arena would provide training for call centre workers as well as customer support services nationwide, the telecommunications company said. The company will also establish a new training company next year alongside the development of the centre.
Somchai Lertsutiwong, chief executive of AIS, said that the new training centre would cover 18,000 square metres.
The company said it would be developed as a hub “to facilitate on-the-job training programme for over 500 trainees daily, supporting call centre agents with more than 700 seats ahead of expansion of to seating for 1,300 agents in the future”.
The facility would also serve as a back-up call centre in addition to the existing customer help centres.
The company has four call centres, with two in Bangkok and two in Nakorn Ratchasima province.

It plans to consolidate these operations into two centres with in the second half of next year.
The Bangkok call centres have a capacity for 1,800 workers. About 90 per cent of the staff come from a younger age bracket described as Generation Y. Some 55,000 customers call the centres each day, for about 8 million calls a month.
Somchai said the proposed new training company would be called AIS Academy, providing training to internally and externally sourced workers. These services would include training for workers in creative fields as well as for digital technology and knowledge transfers.
Separately, the company plans to develop a more personalised bill that lets customers independently check and manage their Internet and telephone services.
Customers will able to gauge patterns of usage and make product selections based on such trends.
