Bleeding burgers, rare ribs and succulent mince – welcome to our meat-free future

Bleeding burgers, rare ribs and succulent mince – welcome to our meat-free future

Re: “Global processed-food industry is the poison, not Western meat and dairy”, Have Your Say, yesterday.

I am glad Robin Grant chose to enter the debate over our carnivorous food choices, as to switch to a plant-based diet is the most important step each of us can take to stop the suffering and slaughter of billions of land and marine animals. The dangerous methane emitted by cattle and the massive runoff from slaughterhouses is polluting our ecosystems, air and waterways. To continue to consume our Western diet of animal flesh, secretions and eggs, United Nations scientists are warning we will need three planets to support the world population of 8.1 billion people by 2025.
The world’s pre-eminent climate change scientist, James Hanson, in his book, “Storms of My Grandchildren”, states our planet with it’s remarkable array of life is in imminent danger of crashing, yet politicians hang back, and it’s politics as usual. As climate zones are changing and storms and floods are more intense we must, for the sake of future generations, adapt. We will not have enough water or feed for more animals.
Entrepreneurs such as Bill Gates, Richard Branson and Tyson Foods, America’s largest animal product producer, are seeing the writing on the wall, and are investing millions of dollars in US producer of plant-based meat substitutes Beyond Meat.
