World peace? It starts at home
Re: “Why the Nobel Peace Prize is not a worthless bauble”, Have Your Say, January 3.
Mention of the Nobel Peace Prize by Somsak Pola reminded me of a quote by Nobel Peace laureate Dr Albert Schweitzer: “Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace.”
Schweitzer was echoing the sentiments of ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras who said, “As long as man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower living beings, he will never know health or peace.”
If world peace is our goal we first need to end our war on animals, and the best place to start is in the kitchen.
