Satellite operator unveils 2018 strategy 

Thaicom Plc, an Asian satellite operator, has unveiled its strategy for 2018 under the theme of “Transformation to the digital era: To be the leading Asian satellite and digital platform operator." It will focus on three areas: Core business, adjacent new business and new business prototyping.

The company's consolidated revenue from sales of goods and rendering of services in 2017 stood at Bt6.68 billion, a decrease of 22.6 per cent from Bt8.64 billion in 2016, mainly due to a drop in revenue from satellite and related services amid a slowdown in the Thai broadcasting industry. 
The company's net profit from normal operations for 2017 was Bt20 million, a decrease of 99 per cent from Bt1.61 billion for 2016. The company also recognised an impairment loss of intangible assets under operating agreement and impairment of goodwill and intangible assets of Orion Satellite System Pty Ltd (OSS), the subsidiary of Thaicom, totalling Bt3.3 billion. As a result, it reported a consolidated net loss of Bt2.65 billion last year, said company CEO Paiboon Panuwattanawong said.
