Churchill was forthright about Islam – and many other things

Re: “The time Churchill built a mosque”, Have Your Say, February 21.

Much as I enjoy Robin Grant’s thoughtful essays in this column, I rather fear that he has succumbed to modern-day political correctness. He criticises JC Wilcox’s reference to Churchill’s anti-Islam stance as a “slur on the great man”, but it is no such thing. That was Churchill’s opinion at the time, it is a fact, and the same sentiment is echoed by many world leaders today. Opinions are opinions.
Moving on to other qualities of the great man which would attract vilification from today’s left-ist “snowflakes”, Churchill was a master of insult and invective. Here is an exchange between Churchill and Nancy Astor, Britain’s first female MP:
Astor:  If I were your wife I would put poison in your coffee.
Churchill:  And if I were your husband, I would drink it!
And here’s another for the “feminazis” – an exchange with Labour MP Bessie Braddock:
Braddock: Winston, you’re drunk.
Churchill: Bessie, you’re ugly.  But tomorrow I shall be sober!
If Churchill were alive today and living in Thailand, he would be a star contributor to the Have Your Say snake pit, to be sure!
