Goalscorer Teerasil makes history in Japan

Teerasil Dangda became the first Thai player to score in Japan’s J-League One yesterday, his goal giving Sanfrecce Hiroshima a 1-0 victory over Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo in their season-opening game in Hiroshima.

The 29-year-old forward, on loan from Muangthong United, headed home a cross from Yoshifumi Kashiwa in the 28th minute to help his side beat Consadole Sapporo, who also featured another Thai in their line-up, Chanathip Songkrasin.
That made it another first – the first time two Thais had faced each other in the J-League. Teerail was also voted the Most Valuable Player of the match.
