INET puts Bt700m into data centre

INTERNET Thailand (INET) is switching its operation from being a cloud provider to a platform provider in a move that it says will help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) better utilise technology services.

The firm this year will invest around Bt700 million on an Internet data centre (IDC) in Saraburi province. It expects to generate revenue of Bt1.6 billion by the end of this year.
Wanchai Vach-shewadumrong, deputy managing director at INET said the funds would be spent on laying down infrastructure at the IDC to meet the increasing demand from customers who want to use a digital platform to support their businesses, such as a collocation platform, a Big Data platform, virtual desktop as a service, application as a service (AaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS), and server virtualisation as private cloud |services.
“The changeover to become a platform provider is aimed at providing various solutions and services to support our customers. INET will continue to come up with innovations to transform technology that will match our customers' business opportunities and exceed their requirements,” Wanchai said.
Wanchai said the firm had joined with US-based Nutanix in order to enhance information technology (IT) infrastructure to maintain competitive advantages for customers in the digital era.
Under the collaboration, the firm will use Nutanix Enterprise Cloud OS software for INET services infrastructure to respond to the ever-changing corporate requirements in the digital era.
“We are providing a new, modern and easy-to-access service for customers that is safe and is cheaper at the rate of 25-30 per cent and comes with an affordable licensing fee,” Wanchai said.
Thawipong Anotaisintthawee, country manager of Nutanix (Thailand), said the cooperation would enable INET to meet the various requirements of customers through an active, automated and high performing cloud system, adding that “INET is able to control and leverage its services standard with assurance”.
Wanchai said that the company expects to generate revenue of around Bt1.6 billion for this year, for growth of around 30 per cent from last year.
